Legal Services advises on the many contracts which the University enters into (including issues relating to intellectual property, and research contracts), together with a wide range of conveyancing and commercial transactions. The Office also advises on charitable and corporate governance matters; drafting policies and regulations; and legal issues arising in student appeals and discipline cases.
Advice is also provided regarding the implementation of statutes, in particular the Data Protection Act, the Human Rights Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
The solicitors within Legal Services can act as Commissioners for Oaths and swear documents for both staff and students; however Legal Services cannot represent individual members of staff or students in personal matters.
